Now, let’s talk about getting a HELB loan. To start, you need to be a student in Kenya who needs money for school. If that’s you, you’re in the right place! The first step is to fill out an application form on the HELB portal. It asks for some basic info about you and your school.
You’ll need to show that you need the Loan to apply. HELB wants to help students who need it most. So, they’ll ask about your family and their money situation. Once you’ve filled out the form, you send it through the portal. Then, HELB looks at your application. They check everything to make sure it’s all good. If you are approved, then HELB will have money sent to either the bank or the MPESA account.
4. Loan Repayment
After you finish school, it’s time to start paying back your HELB loan. For HELB, you can start paying back your Loan one year after your education. Also, that is optional on the HELB portal. You can click on Repay Loan to start Paying back the Loan immediately. If you also fail to pay back your Loan on time, HELB will charge a penalty of Ksh5,000 per month for each month a loan remains unpaid.
